Vaginal dryness is a typical condition for the most women who are approaching their menopause or are pre-menopause but it also isn’t uncommon at a younger age either. It is caused because of the absence of estrogen secretion, which leads to inadequate lubrication of the vagina.

It causes extreme pain and inconvenience while having intimate encounters, this can prompt bacterial and yeast diseases.

Its symptoms include; inflammation in the vagina during sex, constant itching, and soreness of vagina.

Its causes can be –

  • Low estrogen (Estrogen is a hormone that helps keep the vaginal tissue lubricated and healthy)

Factors that prompt low estrogen include; Perimenopause, Menopause, birth of a kid, breastfeeding, medical procedure, smoking, Cancer treatments, anti-estrogen medicines.

  • Douching and other chemical irritants like cleansers, creams, fragrances, can disturb the natural balance of chemicals, in the long run prompting vaginal dryness.
  • Antidepressants may also affection vaginal secretions.
  • Increase in stress and nervousness would prompt a differed sexual desire which causes vaginal dryness.
  • Low libido levels might make way to dryness, and conversely, the dryness may result in low libido.

Diagnosing Vaginal Dryness

  • Counsel your doctor for a pelvic examination to check the cause of the walls of the vagina followed by a test of the vaginal discharge.
  • Get a hormone test done to check if you are undergoing menopause.

Ensure these safety measures to stay away from vaginal dryness:

  • Avoid deodorants and perfumes around the intimate area.
  • During intercourse give some time for foreplay and let the body create lubrication naturally.
  • Use lubricant during sex.
  • Consult your doctor about treating the lack of estrogen secreted for substitute measures.
  • Use intimate moisturizer or gel to soothe vagina.

How to increase the lubrication?

Vaginal dryness is a serious issue and shall be addressed with high importance. Its treatment changes depending upon the cause and severity of the condition. A common recommendation for the issue is the use of Lubes and creams during intercourse. it helps vagina stay moist for several hours or the whole day.

Use water-soluble lube during intercourse to minimize vaginal dryness.
